I love avocado and the health benefits needs no introduction. I usually have it on its own (which already tastes so good) in my salads but I have also experimented with recipes like avocado shake or avocado “pudding”. Avocado is so versatile and it makes the perfect ingredient in clean eating recipes.
I recently started making guacamole because I can’t believe I’ve never tried it and it’s not easy to get to a Mexican restaurant in Singapore so DIY is the best option. If I had known how easy it was to whip this up, I would have made it long ago!
Truth is, there isn’t really a recipe for this because I always make it without measurements. And basically you can always tweak it to your taste.
Hungry Bird’s Guacamole:
- 1 avocado (ripe, but not overly ripe. The one in the first picture is perfect)
- 2 cherry tomatoes, diced
- 1 shallot or 1 tbsp onions, diced
- ½ big lime or 2 tsp lemon juice
- ¼ tsp sea salt
- A dash of paprika
- Cut the avocados into small pieces and place in a bowl.
- Mash it up with a fork.
- Add all other ingredients and mix well.
- Enjoy on its own (I would do that. So delicious) or serve with tortilla chips!
Basically, I used whatever I have at home. Sometimes it’s lemon, sometimes lime. Sometimes onions, sometimes shallots. Paprika is my own idea because I always have that at home but most recipes calls for other spices like cumin or cayenne pepper. Jalapeños are commonly added too to increase the kick but I don’t have that.
As derived from the ingredient’s involved, this guacamole dip is 100% clean and healthy. No added sugar, no gluten, no fats (other than avocado natural fats). For a healthier alternative to tortilla chips you could have it with celery perhaps!
