Studio Review: Bikram Original Hot Yoga

Management: 7/10

Sales staff/ reception: Hard sell.

Membership options: Approach consultants for rates.

Class booking: Available online.

Number of outlets: 1.

Ambiance:

  • Character: Normal yoga room.
  • Condition: Located in a designated area away from other True Yoga rooms, the Bikram studio has carpeted flooring and is better maintained.

Crowded: Yes.

Cleanliness: Mats are changed each time.

Class timing: 5 – 8 classes a day.

Yoga studio: 7/10

Heat: Infrared panel heater. Not very hot.

Mats: Manduka.

Class size: More than 30, can be around 60 (Studio A is bigger than Studio B).

Changing room: 5/10

Toilet: Many, but in poor condition. Another toilet is available right outside Bikram rooms.

Showers: Plenty, but some are dirty with rust or odour.

Towels: Provided at reception, but condition is poor with holes in some of them. Generally they are thin to begin with.

Water: Dispenser available.

Lounge area: Big.

Lockers: Bring your own lock. Key locker provided only for VIP members.

My opinion:

They share the same changing room as the regular True Yoga, and the changing room is not good. However, the yoga room for Bikram is better than the normal True Yoga’s. The condition is newer and does not have a stench. Mats are taken away for cleaning after every session too.

The heat however, was not as hot as Bikram Yoga Katong or even other hot studios like Hom Yoga. For Bikram practioners who like it hot, this may not be a good thing.

The teacher I tried had a nice British accent which sounded like BBC channel playing in the background while I concentrated on my yoga. It was good.

Pros: Cleaned Manduka mats.
Cons: Poor changing room facilities and bring your own lock system.
Rating: 7/10
