I was thrilled to find out that this studio was just a 3 minutes walk from my Airbnb in Surry Hills. Surry Hills is a neighbourhood with many yoga studios so do stay around here if yoga is your thing. Potts Point is another neighbourhood for yoga, I heard.
This studio is relatively new, just a few months old and differs from the typical Australian studio by giving over the top service and comes with a unique theme. It might be Humming Puppy‘s competitor, except that their theme is different.
Here at Urban Yoga, they aim to provide a multi sensory experience. You do yoga in a dark room with a movie screen showing images relevant to your class’ energy. For Urban Flow, they played images of New York City and things which inspires energy. For Urban Stretch, the images were mostly of nature. Music is also specifically selected.
The yoga is taught in a very non-traditional way, removing most Indian culture from the practice. Even the names of the classes reflects so.
Over the top studios like this which provides everything is still rare in Australia but it’s nice to have a round for sure. I enjoyed my experience here a lot and I hope such space can arrive in Singapore too.
